 Fish are fueling this farm

Ernest Rando, of Matthew's Nursery in Gary, nets a tilapia from a pool used in an aquaponics operation. The aquaponics system uses fish waste to feed plants through a watering system. In turn, the plants clean the water for the fish, and the water is pumped back into the pool.

Greenhouse gardener vies for cola grant
Tomatoes and other vegetables sprout at Greg Hancock's greenhouse, located behind the WME Show Low 5 Theatre and Majestic Music. Hancock has submitted his project, growing food using hydroponics and recycled two-liter soda bottles, for a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project. If he gets the grant, he said he would use the money to expand to an aquaponic system and educate the public on alternative growing methods.

Home, organic farm planned for North Stonington property
North Stonington - A Mystic family has purchased the former YMCA Camp Anderson for $345,000 and plans to use the 135-acre property for a home and organic farm, possibly including an aquaculture venture.

The Young Men's Christian Association of Southeastern Connecticut Inc. sold the property to the 96 Button Road Trust with Van Brown as trustee, according to records filed Friday in Town Hall. So i hooked this thing up sitting above a 300gallon rubbermaid.  1 3/4" outlet pointed staight into the water about 1" above the surface.  When I turned it on the entire 300 gallons looked like the ocean frothy overflowing on all sides lost about 50 gallons of water on the floor of my garage.ns of water on the floor of my garage.....(MORE)

THE first stage of plans to develop a community garden in Mackenzie Street was unveiled yesterday, with the opening of the Aquaponics centre.

The community garden is a joint project between Lambing Flat Enterprises (LFE), Local Employment and Training Solutions (LETS) and TAFE, and aims to provide employment training for LFE Post School Options participants and other LFE service users.

UTA celebrates Earth Day early by planting trees on campus

The festivities began at 8 a.m. Wednesday for 22 volunteers who helped plant 50 trees across campus, including around Lot 30 and Clay Gould Ballpark.

Grounds maintenance supervisor Jan Hergert said not all of the 50 volunteers who had signed up came to the planting.

“We have 89 trees given by city of Arlington. Our goal is to plant as many as we can in four hours,” he said.

He showed the participants how to correctly dig a hole to ensure the trees can grow properly.

The Saga of a dead Laptop

For the first time since I moved to Laptops, I got a blue screen of death and it really was DEATH to the laptop. Fortunately I had my trusty External HDD backup. Man, I now know how important that backup is. For me, it's 200gb of space well invested.
