Meanwhile our Aquaponics hobby or business just keeps rolling along. We try to ignore the seasons as best we can. Aquaponics: A sustainable food source for the future
What is the general outlook for this type of fish growing and vegetable gardening as opposed to the traditional method of fishing the oceans and growing vegetables in soil? Those dealing commercially with aquaponics believe it will have an important place in the commercialization of food products in the future.
Schools benefit from water quality grants
This year, it awarded 206 grants in 16 counties, including 54 in Hillsborough County. The grants offer up to $5,000 per school on a reimbursement basis for projects involving water conservation and quality, alternative water sources and more.
Public, charter and private schools in northwestern Hillsborough received the grants.
TAMPA - More than 50 grants will help schools across the region with eco-friendly projects this year, sending students out to plant salt marsh grass, test water quality in local rivers and watersheds and even raise tilapia.
The Southwest Florida Water Management District reviewed applications from public and private schools for its annual Splash! grants, which are currently under way. The district has offered the grants for 16 years and paid for 186 projects during the last school year.

Hapa Farms to Partner with local Middle School in Hawaii
I was very excited to see this story about an upcoming aquaponics class to be offered at Highlands Intermediate School (Pearl City) beginning next Fall 2011. They have partnered with Hapa Farms and will be constructing their own system with the help of the school's science teachers. Bravo to Hapa Farms and the science staff at Highlands. I hope we get lots of great pictures from this project.
Chatham University unveils master plan for nation's first sustainable campus at Eden Hall
Since 2008, when The Eden Hall Foundation donated the 338-acre Eden Hall Farm in Richland Township to Chatham University, the school has been hard at work developing plans for a revolutionary second campus on the property. Last week, Chatham unveiled its master plan for the Eden Hall Campus, which will house the newly formed School of Sustainability and the Environment and will be the first campus in the nation to integrate sustainable development, learning, and living.

The water is pumped into the plant tank and due to gravity the water is sucked into the fish tank.
